It's About Time!

So we finally made the move we have been talking about for the last four years!! We finally moved to Seattle! And so far...we have loved it! It is beautiful here! and everyone we have talked to so far has been so friendly and personal. Weirdly even including more business-like calls such as the insurance company. :) The last few weeks have been insane with getting everything packed up and ready to go. We had about 3-4 van loads of stuff we either took to DI or the garbage. Then another van load we took to store down in Ephraim. It's amazing how much stuff you accumulate and don't realize that you have until you have to fit everything you are taking into a passenger van and a car! But we got it done...just barely :) And so we headed out I guess it was on May 16th. We drove to Baker City, OR the first day and then drove the rest of the way the next day. It was a really long drive especially since we had to drive separately. I think the worst parts were through the flat parts of Oregon where the speed limit is only 65 mph. That was torture! But other than that is really wasn't too bad. It was a beautiful drive! [and no this is not a pic of rush hour traffic...I just like all the overgrowth on the bridges] ;)We finally came out of the mountains and right into Seattle's rush hour traffic. That was a little unnerving in a van packed full of stuff. But it seems people in Seattle work a little better together in traffic than they do in Salt Lake which has been quite refreshing. There is definitely a lot more traffic here but it flows much smoother. So we made our way to our destination which was the Ferry dock to get to Vashon Island. I'd never ridden on a ferry before so it was kind of a fun experience. Especially to see all the surrounding islands and the coast of Seattle itself from the water. We stayed on Vashon Island with Cambrea's parents until we could find an apartment. It would have been amazing to get an apartment there on the island. It was beautiful!That night we went out on the rowboat for a bit at sundown and just relaxed a little after such a long week and before another long one as we looked for an apartment....jobs...etc. We were able to find an apartment within one day of driving around the city to find areas we liked and one day of looking at apartments. The place we found ended up being just a little cheaper than our place in Salt Lake. We were expecting to pay about $100-$200 more for a place out here, but luckily the place we liked was having a deal on their apartments so it worked out quite well!So we are all moved in now and just looking for jobs and enjoying our time here. Things have gone so much better than we expected they would. Things have just kind of fallen into place. We feel like it was a really good move. The biggest reason we moved here was because Seattle has a very big music culture and that has already shown in all the interactions we have had with people. Whenever we mention that Tim is a musician, people here get excited and ask if he has any shows lined up that they can go to and what kind of music he plays. Whereas in Utah, people would sometimes ask but there was always that look in their eyes that they thought it was silly and not anything worth pursuing. So it has actually been really refreshing to be in a culture where people are excited and genuinely supportive and actually go out to concerts of local musicians. So we hope that over the next few weeks things continue to fall into place so we can really get started with our lives out here. Anyway, that is my update for now.
